Our History

Sexton-Hall Funeral Home is a family owned and operated funeral service establishment that has been actively engaged in the practice of funeral service since being founded by Mr. Horace H. Hall, Sr. in 1984. In 2009 Mr. Horace H. Hall II became the current president at our current location of 5 Birkenhead Rd., Port Wentworth, GA. The current facility is composed of over 4,500 square feet of space, which houses administrative offices, reposing rooms, operating room and chapel. The largest casket selection room enhances the firms' ability to adjust to market demands by enabling it to offer a large variety of caskets and cremation products.

  • Mr. Horace H. Hall Sr.

    Mr. Horace H. Hall Sr. Founder

    Founder and Owner of Hall's Funeral Home, 23 West 56th Street from February, 1981 to October, 1984. At that time merged to become Sexton-Hall Funeral Directors, Inc. 118 East 35th Street. Where the business operated for over 25 years until it relocated to it's present location in 2009. Mr. Hall is a native of Savannah, Georgia and a product of the local public schools of Chatham County. After Graduation from Tompkins High School, he attended Draughons Junior College of Business and Savannah State University. He is also pursuing a five-year course of study offered by the International Cemetery and Cremation Funeral Association (ICCFA). Three years of this curriculum that is offered in conjunction with the University of Memphis has been completed. He began his career in the funeral services industry in September 1967 with the now defunct Braddy Funeral Directors, Inc. During his tenure with this firm, he successfully passed the state exam and became a licensed insurance agent. He has been affiliated with both the United Family Life Insurance Company of Atlanta and the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was the former owner and president of Sexton-Hall Mortuary, Inc. located in Savannah, Georgia. Always willing to be of service to his country, community, and church, Mr. Hall, a veteran of the United States Navy is very active in all arenas. He is a member of the 50th Street Church of Christ. He was twice candidate for Chatham County Commissioner for the Fifth District and a candidate to fill in the unexpired term of the Late Alderman Robbie Robinson. He is the former president of the Planning Unit #6 Community Organization. He is a member of the District One Georgia Funeral Service Practitioner's Association, the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, a charter member and former president of the Robbie Robinson 5th District Advisory Council and the International Cemetery and Cremation Funeral Association. He was appointed to the Cultural Affairs Citizens Task Force in 1998. During this two-year appointment, he along with the other members of the task force made funding recommendations to the Chatham County Commissioners for various social-civic projects such as the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Althletic Hall or Fame, etc. He als served as Chairman First District of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association (2000) and also voted Mortician of the Year (1997). Mr. Hall is married to Vanessa Bacon-Hall and the father of six children. The importance of family to him is displayed by the active participation of his family in the business.

    Mr. Horace Hall, II is the fourth child of Marie Griffin and Horace Hall, Sr. he was raised in the church and is an active member of the Liberty City Church of Christ. He is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and a product of the local schools of Chatham County and is a graduate of Savannah High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army where he also attended Kansas City Kansas Community College.After his active-duty career, he enrolled at Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service and upon his graduation with his Associates of Science Degree he then returned home to help with the family business. Mr. Hall obtained his Funeral Director and Embalmers License in 2004. He entered the U.S. Army Reserves where he continued until his retirement in October of 2019. He is a member of the 1st District of Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Inc, where he serves on the nominating committee, Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners, Inc and the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc. Mr. Hall has served the community as the first basketball coach of Rice Creek Middle School, coached youth basketball and football for Port Wentworth Leisure Service, and Pooler Recreation Department. He also has served our great nation: Operation Iraqi Freedom (2006-2007), Senior Drill Sergeant, Battalion Supply Sergeant, Company Supply Sergeant, and Enlisted Aide-de-Camp to two General Officers. Some awards include the Army Commendation Medal (1999), Recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (Iraq, 2007), Recipient of the Army Achievement Medal (2015), and Army Good Conduct Medal (6x). Mr. Hall Is the current owner of Sexton-Hall Funeral Home located in Port Wentworth, GA. He is married to the former Ms. Danyel McNeil, they are the parents of two sons, H. Hilton Hall, III and Richard Hall

    Danyel D. Hall, Ph.Dc, Compliance Officer Oversees and manage compliance issues as it relates to the daily activities of Sexton-Hall Funeral Home, Inc. Danyel excels in leading the compliance efforts to designing and implementing internal controls, policies and procedures to assure agreement of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations and family guidelines; responding to requests for information from regulatory bodies.Danyel a doctoral student, studying education administration at Capella University, has taught in the Chatham County Public School System and continues her work ethics with the Department of Early Care and Learning. She has taught in North and South Carolina as well, giving her 15 plus years in the field of education. She also holds a Masters in Education from Cambridge College, and B.S. in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University. Danyel is the wife of the distinguished Horace H. Hall II, they have two brilliant sons, Horace III and Richard. The Lord provides the family a peculiar role in serving at the Liberty City Church of Christ, where Danyel enjoys working with the youth and ladies of the congregation. Working for the community at Sexton-Hall Funeral Home allows her to carry on a humble service for families that are experiencing a great lost. It is at this capacity Danyel will strive to provide extraordinary relations.
