Ms. Carolyne Smith

January 23, 1946 - August 15, 2020

SAVANNAH - Ms. Carolyne Smith, 74 entered eternal rest Saturday, August 15, 2020. Carolyne was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 23, 1946 to the late Harry and Josephine Beasley Smith. She was educated in the public schools of Chatham County and a graduate of Sol. C. Johnson High School, Class of 1964. She attended the University of Memphis, Cemetery Management- American Cemetery Association. She worked as an Executive Secretary and Floral Designer. After moving back to the Savannah area in May 2000, she began working closely with Mrs. Carolyn B. Jones (late) of Sidney A Jones Funeral Home for over twenty-five years. She also was employed at Memorial Medical Center, Georgia Regional Hospital, Chatham County School System and Police Department. Carolyne was a believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir, served on the Archive, and Mission ministry until her health began to decline. Carolyne loved spending time with her family and friends, loved decorating, shopping, cooking her favorite dishes and always reaching out, by phone call or sending a beautiful card. She loved going to Ellabell and being with her cousins, Joanne and family, and she always talked about her grandchildren. Carolyne is preceded in death by both of her parents, a son, James Harry Washington, and a brother, Jackie Robinson Smith. Her life, memories, smile, and her willingness to help others will always be remembered and cherished by: a son, Dr. Rickey D. Rivers, Pastor and Daughter in law, Darnita A. Rivers of Panama City, Florida; two sisters, Barbara Ann Smith of Tampa, Fl; Rita Mae Smith Fleming of Savannah, GA; a brother, Melvin Smith, Sr. of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren-Rickey Jr., Tyler, Mar-Key, Nikolas, and Darnell; three great-grandchildren; special cousins, Joanne Collins of Ellabell, GA and Brenda Stewart of Savannah, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. DUE TO COVID-19/CDC GUIDELINES, FACE COVERINGS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL BE IN PLACE.
